AC & Heating in Summerfield

Summerfield at a glance

Summerfield is a town of 10,951 people (2020) in northern Guilford County, largely a suburb of Greensboro that has grown from farmland into a bedroom community. Its town hall sits along Oak Ridge Road, NC 150, west of Battleground Avenue, with a shopping center to the east.

What that means for your AC

Many Summerfield homes are larger and newer, often with two systems, zoning or heat pumps paired with gas furnaces. Replacements and zoning work are common; see AC replacement. Bonus rooms over garages are often the hardest rooms to cool. Lots of an acre or more are typical, so outdoor units often sit far from the house on long refrigerant line sets that need checking for leaks.

Open lots

Large lots and fewer trees mean more sun on roofs and attics. Many newer homes are built with high-efficiency heat pumps and sealed attics or crawl spaces.

Bruce's Crossroads

Charles Bruce settled the area around 1769, and it was known as Bruce's Crossroads. In February 1781, Patriot forces under Henry Lee III skirmished with British cavalry under Banastre Tarleton here and forced them to retreat. Today NC 150 and U.S. 220 cross the town, with I-73 just west. Large homes here often need balanced ductwork; see ductwork and crawl spaces. Northern transplants who moved here often ask about heat pump performance compared with the furnaces they knew up north.
